10X Innovation Lab hosted the 2020 GCAMP (Growing Global Go), a three-day virtual bootcamp in Taiwan on July 10-12, 2020, in partnership with the Institute for Information Industry (Triple iii), The Small and Medium Enterprise Administration (SMEA), and the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA). Participants included distinguished mentors, based in Silicon Valley, who led webinars, presentations, group-based coaching, and 1:1 mentorship to prepare Taiwanese founders to engage with US customers and partners.

2020 GCAMP: An action-packed bootcamp

Sonya Liu and her team from Triple iii organized GCAMP on-the-ground in Taiwan. “There are challenges doing the bootcamp virtually but we were prepared. Even online, meaningful learning and productive discussions can happen," Liu noted. While the presentations and mentorships were run virtually, founders from Taiwan’s 15 hottest startups gathered in-person at the Taiwan Accelerator Plus Pavilion (TAcc+) in Linkou, New Taipei City.

The startups, spanning a diverse range of industries, from bio-pharmaceutical to luxury jewelry, received tailored advice and guidance as well as critical feedback from our Silicon Valley-based mentors.

10X’s VP of Entrepreneurship and co-founder, Aaron McDaniel, was the keynote speaker, delivering important sessions on topics including scaling a startup, finding product-market fit, and effective customer sales.

“For years, 10X has been supporting the Taiwanese startup ecosystem by bridging the gap between them and Silicon Valley through our educational programs. I am thrilled to work with such driven and fiercely intelligent founders here at GCamp,” said Aaron McDaniel.

Thought Leadership

10X brought in some of Silicon Valley’s top thought leaders including Mitchell Weinstock, Partner, Hewlett Packard Tech Venture; Marvin Liao, Former Partner, 500 Startups; Jesper Wind, Founder, Edge Business Advisory; and Gideon Marks, Anchor Mentor, Google Launchpad.

These experts talked about raising capital in Silicon Valley, accepting funding from VCs, how to do effective sales, pitching and follow-up strategy, expansion potential, go-to-market strategy topics, and much more.

Special Recognition

During the bootcamp, 10X surveyed the participants to identify the most collaborative founder. The startup that received the most votes was Unpolished, led by founder Tony Ho, whose outstanding collaborative spirit was recognized by his peers. Unpolished is a platform connecting nail artists, salons, and spaces to improve nail care and beauty experience.

Founder Testimonials

“We had a pretty solid pitch deck going in but the feedback the mentors gave us, made our pitch and value proposition even clearer and tailored to our client’s pain points. One of the biggest takeaway for us is to “Be agile!” — Zoe Tu, Business Developer, TAKE

“The speakers were wonderfully diverse and intelligent. We learned a lot in a short period of time, especially how to build connections and the entrepreneur mindset in Silicon Valley.” Yadia Colindres, COO, FOX-TECH

The Top 5 Startups To Get Into The Accelerator Program

The bootcamp concluded with the announcement of five startups who were accepted into the GCamp Acceleration Program. In the coming months, 10X will provide these startups with mentorship, coaching, and networking opportunities, as well as access to their partners and investors in Silicon Valley. The winners are:

  • Jubo - a digital healthcare solution that centers on collecting, analyzing, and reporting elderly people’s healthcare data.

  • Nuwa Robotics - designed by Kebbi Air, an AI robot that functions as a child’s friend for language and aid for programming learning.

  • Fox-Tech - streamlines the F&B value chain through a combination of high-tech tools and cloud-based analytics.

  • BELx - a biopharmaceutical startup developing new and innovative botanical drugs to cure cancer and chronic diseases.

  • Giftpack - an AI-powered business gifting platform.

10X founder, Klaus Wehage, a longstanding advisor to the Taiwanese government about startup ecosystem building, said this about GCamp:

“We are so impressed by the passion of the founders and solid business ideas coming out of Taiwan. It was inspiring to see the founders come before the crowd on Pitch Night to showcase their improved pitches. Considering the challenges of a virtual setup, everything went very well and I’m sure there will be more ways to reimagine workshops online as we adapt to these changing times. We commend our partners at Triple iii for the flawless organization. We can’t wait to see how these founders grow and become one of the world’s most successful startups,” said Klaus Wehage.
