About Ron Shigeta

Ron is a VC Partner and the Science Officer on the founding team of the preeminent Synthetic Biology Accelerator, IndieBio. As of Q1 2020, the Market Cap of the portfolio is ~ $2.2B from ~$15M deployed investments.  Ron has worked with 100 startup teams including Clara Foods, Memphis Meats, Geltor, SyntheX (pharma), MycoWorks, OneSkin, theNotCo, New Wave Foods, and Prellis (organ printing).

He formally currently advises select startups in high-end neurotech, liquid biopsy diagnostics, synbio manufacturing, and scaling, and highly innovative food startups. 

As an Advisor, his goal is to take a team through funding and support their evolution to their fullest potential.  Scaling, funding, commercial partnerships, networking, pitching, technical plans are all in scope to get to their goals.

Since leaving SOSV, Ron has advised multiple VC funds for technical diligence of their biotech investments. This and his relationships with VC worldwide have helped him maintain a perfect raise record with his advisory just a few months out.  He is also a part-time Investor at Alix VC, a seed biotherapeutic VC fund. 

The sprint to bring a team to the head of the field is engaging for Ron. At the TrepCamp and SantanderX international pitch competitions this year he had six finalist teams and one champion.  SantanderX finalist Totolines will face off this fall.
